Ibiza is known as a tolerant place since some centuries ago when it became a pirates’ and fugitives’ hideout. Despite the despotic Franco’s brutal reign on mainland Spain, it became known as an island that was particularly sympathetic to gay men and women, well before most of mainland Europe. In the sixties and seventies it was a destination for hippies from all over the world that established there a community is still present in the island.
